AAIP Streams
The eight streams under Alberta's program
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) operates eight distinct streams. Each targets a different candidate profile — your occupation, location, work permit type, and whether you have an Express Entry profile determine which stream applies.
Alberta Opportunity Stream
The broadest worker route — covers TEER 0 through 5 occupations for candidates already working in Alberta on a valid work permit with a job offer.
Alberta Express Entry Stream
Selects candidates from the federal Express Entry pool (minimum CRS 300) working in priority sectors. A nomination adds 600 CRS points.
Tourism & Hospitality Stream
For workers with a continuing job offer from an Alberta employer in the tourism or hospitality industry.
Rural Renewal Stream
For candidates with a job offer and a community endorsement letter from a participating rural Alberta community.
Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
For graduates of Alberta post-secondary institutions who are starting or operating a business in the province.
Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
For foreign graduates who want to start or buy a business in Alberta, with relevant education and business experience.
Rural Entrepreneur Stream
For entrepreneurs establishing or purchasing a business in a rural Alberta community, with a community endorsement.
Farm Stream
For experienced farm owners or operators who plan to purchase or establish a farming business in Alberta.
How It Works
From expression of interest to permanent residence
Submit a Worker EOI
Worker streams begin with a Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) submission to the AAIP portal. A $135 fee applies. Your profile is scored out of 100 based on human-capital and economic factors.
Receive an invitation
Alberta reviews EOI profiles and sends invitations to the highest-scoring candidates. If you apply through the Express Entry stream, you need an active federal profile with a minimum CRS of 300.
Apply to the AAIP
Once invited, you submit a full application with supporting documents and pay the $1,500 application fee. You have 90 days from the date of invitation to submit.
Receive your nomination
Alberta reviews your application and, if approved, issues a provincial nomination certificate. For Express Entry candidates, this adds 600 CRS points to your profile.
Apply for permanent residence
Express Entry candidates receive an automatic invitation to apply for PR. Base stream candidates submit a paper-based PR application directly to IRCC.
Final determination by IRCC
IRCC makes the final decision on your permanent residence application after completing security, medical, and admissibility checks.
